Hull FC have appointed Steve McNamara as their new head coach from the 2027 Betfred Super League season, with current coach John Cartwright stepping down immediately. The move comes after Hull FC and Warrington Wolves reached an agreement for McNamara to return to his boyhood club, where he made over 160 senior appearances between 1989 and 1996.

Assistant coach Andy Last will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the current season. McNamara will complete his duties with Warrington Wolves, where he's currently assistant coach, before taking over at Hull FC in 2027. The appointment reunites McNamara with the club where he rose through the youth ranks before embarking on a distinguished playing career that included international representation with England and Great Britain.

McNamara brings extensive coaching experience, having led Bradford Bulls, Catalans Dragons, and the England international side. His most notable success came with Catalans, where he guided the Dragons to their most successful period, including a Challenge Cup final triumph and two Super League Grand Final appearances. Hull FC chief executive Richie Myler described the appointment as "a powerful moment for Hull FC," while chairman Andrew Thirkill emphasized McNamara's experience and leadership as critical for the club's future ambitions.
