Cyrus Pattinson's Boxing Comeback: From Rock Bottom to Newcastle Showdown

Newcastle welterweight Cyrus Pattinson is staging a remarkable comeback after hitting 'rock bottom' following a devastating loss in 2023. The former GB amateur boxer, who was one win away from the 2016 Olympics, turned professional in 2021 and won his first six fights before suffering a career-threatening eye injury that left him without a promoter, manager, or trainer.

Pattinson's road to recovery has been arduous, battling severe depression and taking 15-20 mile walks daily to maintain his mental health. He found a new home at Billy Nelson's gym in Glasgow, initially as a sparring partner for Jack Rafferty and world champion Lewis Crocker. Now, after three consecutive wins, the 28-year-old returns to the Vertu Motors Arena in Newcastle this Saturday to face Tunde Segun Adeyemi.

The popular North East fighter is eyeing British and Commonwealth welterweight titles after his next bout. Nelson, who has Pattinson living with him during 10-12 week training camps, believes his charge has improved 'bundles' and can compete at domestic and European levels. Pattinson, who famously lost to Conah Walker in an all-action brawl, now sees that defeat differently as Walker has gone on to knock out Olympic silver medallist Pat McCormack.
