Formula 1's Aston Martin team is facing a challenging start to the 2026 season, according to team principal Adrian Newey. He revealed that the team is approximately four months behind schedule. This delay stems from late access to the wind tunnel and the timing of his own arrival. The new regulations for 2026 are expected to shake up the grid order, potentially creating opportunities for teams to make significant gains.

Newey, who joined Aston Martin in March 2024, admitted that the compressed timeframe has resulted in a tight research and design cycle. Aston Martin's AMR26 car only came together at the last minute, forcing them to scramble to make the Barcelona Shakedown. The team completed just 65 laps during the shakedown, the fewest of any team present. Testing for the 2026 season is underway.

Despite the setbacks, Newey expressed optimism about the car's development potential. He stated the team has focused on fundamental aspects, anticipating in-season upgrades. The next testing phase will be the Bahrain pre-season tests, scheduled for February 11-13 and 18-20. The Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne will begin the season from March 6-8.

These delays could impact Aston Martin's ability to compete with rivals in the upcoming season. The team hopes to leverage the new regulations and Newey's design expertise to gain a competitive edge. The team's aggressive design choices may provide an advantage. However, the true performance of the AMR26 remains to be seen.
