Stars Send Bourque to Predators in Draft Picks Deal

The Dallas Stars have traded restricted free agent Mavrik Bourque to the Nashville Predators, adding another young forward to the roster turnover this summer. Nashville sent their 2027 second-round pick and a 2028 third-rounder acquired from Vegas, while Dallas also moved veteran defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin to Nashville. Lyubushkin carries a $3.25 million cap hit for next season before hitting unrestricted free agency.

Bourque, 24, posted 20 goals and 21 assists in 82 games last season while averaging 15:29 in ice time. The former first-round pick earned $950,000 on a one-year deal and remains arbitration eligible. This represents the boldest move yet for new Predators GM Chris Mac Farland, who previously acquired forwards Ross Colton, Jack Drury and Adam Edstrom this offseason.

For Dallas, the trade continues a pattern of moving young talent after dealing Logan Stankoven in the Mikko Rantanen blockbuster. GM Jim Nill faces contract stalemates with Jason Robertson and lost out on acquiring Zach Werenski when the defenseman's no-movement clause blocked the deal. The Stars are clearly reshaping their roster under financial constraints.

The swap gives Nashville immediate scoring depth while Dallas stockpiles future assets. Bourque joins a revamped forward group in Music City, but the Stars still need to resolve their remaining restricted free agent situations before training camp opens.
