Sidney Crosby exited Canada's Olympic quarterfinal against Czechia in the second period with a lower-body injury and will not return to the game. The Pittsburgh Penguins captain's right leg appeared to buckle after bracing for contact on a hit from Czechia defenseman Radko Gudas, following a check from Ondrej Palat that sent him into the boards.

Crosby, visibly laboring after the collision, took one stride before shaking his right leg, wincing in pain, and leaving the ice for the bench. The 38-year-old two-time Olympic gold medalist received medical attention before limping down the tunnel as Canada trailed 2-1. Hockey Canada confirmed during the third period that Crosby would not return to the game.

As Canada's oldest and most accomplished player, Crosby scored the famous golden goal in overtime against the United States at the 2010 Vancouver Games and captained the 2014 Sochi team to another gold medal. In Milan, he had accumulated two goals and four assists in three preliminary round games before the injury.
