Paris Saint-Germain won the UEFA Super Cup for a second straight year by beating Aston Villa 2-1 on Wednesday thanks to Désiré Doué's second-half goal. Doué's 61st-minute strike was initially ruled out for offside, but awarded after a video review. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's opener was canceled out by Brian Madjo, a 17-year-old making his competitive debut for Villa days after getting clearance following a FIFA registration dispute.

PSG became the first team to win back-to-back Super Cup titles since Real Madrid (2016 and '17). The match in Salzburg was refereed by Omar Artan, the Somali official barred by the U.S. from the World Cup over vetting concerns. UEFA responded by giving Artan the Super Cup assignment.

PSG could pick up a second trophy when they face Lens in the Trophée des Champions on Sunday. Doué, back from the World Cup, was the matchwinner. Madjo, born in north London, represented Luxembourg in friendlies but now chose England. Villa manager Unai Emery suffered a fourth straight Super Cup loss.
