The San Jose Sharks have placed veteran forward Jeff Skinner on waivers after a mutual decision to part ways. The 33-year-old had signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the team but managed just six goals and seven assists in 32 games this season.

Skinner, who won the Calder Trophy as the NHL's top rookie in 2011 while with the Carolina Hurricanes, has scored at least 30 goals six times in his career. His production has declined significantly since his peak years, and the Sharks' decision comes as they look to reshape their forward group. The move creates cap space for San Jose as they navigate the remainder of the season.

The former first-round pick played in the postseason last year for the first time in his career with the Edmonton Oilers. General manager Mike Grier expressed appreciation for Skinner's contributions in a statement, wishing him well in his future endeavors. With waivers cleared, Skinner becomes an unrestricted free agent and can sign with any team.
