NFL teams swarm Sorsby after gambling scandal, supplemental draft looming

Cincinnati coach Scott Satterfield said NFL scouts are flooding his office with questions about former Bearcat quarterback Brendan Sorsby after the player entered the supplemental draft. Sorsby, who left Cincinnati for Texas Tech, drew attention when a gambling investigation revealed he placed more than 9,000 bets totalling $90,000. Satterfield expects the volume of inquiries to rise in the coming weeks.

Last season Sorsby threw for 2,800 yards, 27 touchdowns and five interceptions while adding 580 rushing yards and nine scores. Cincinnati started 7‑1 before dropping four straight and missing the Liberty Bowl, where Sorsby sat out. His 2024 stats showed a 64% completion rate, 2,813 passing yards, 18 touchdowns and seven picks, plus 447 rushing yards.

All 32 clubs are slated to attend Sorsby’s pro day in Denton, Texas, making the supplemental draft the only realistic path to the league after Texas Tech ruled him ineligible officially. Cleveland’s Todd Monken warned that teams face a “slippery slope” evaluating a player with a gambling past. Satterfield concluded he hopes Sorsby can learn from his mistakes and earn a roster spot.
