Manny Fernandez, a key member of the Miami Dolphins' dominant 1970s defense, has died at age 79. The team announced Tuesday that Fernandez, who anchored the famed "No-Name Defense", will be remembered as "one of the best players in Dolphins history." His death marks the passing of another link to the only perfect season in NFL history.

Fernandez played his entire eight-year NFL career in Miami after joining as an undrafted free agent in 1968. He made 17 tackles and a sack in Super Bowl VII, helping the Dolphins complete their 17-0 season. The two-time second-team All-Pro was instrumental in three consecutive Super Bowl appearances, including back-to-back victories in 1972 and 1973.

Fernandez received his ultimate recognition in 2014 when the Dolphins inducted him into their Ring of Honor. His consistency and selfless contributions were crucial to Miami's success throughout the early 1970s. The Dolphins organization expressed condolences to his family, teammates, and loved ones as they remember a cornerstone of the franchise's greatest era.
