Daniels eyes growth as Commanders overhaul offense

Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels told reporters in Ashburn that he likes the Commanders’ revamped offense but admits he “still has a long way to go.” The team swapped offensive coordinators, bringing in David Blough after parting with Kliff Kingsbury, and shifted from a no‑huddle, under‑center scheme to a more traditional, under‑center attack. For Daniels, it’s the second system he must master in three NFL seasons.

2025 left Daniels with just four full starts and seven appearances after a sprained knee, hamstring strain and a dislocated left elbow sidelined him. The injury‑marred campaign starkly contrasts with his 2024 breakout, when he earned Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, posted 3,568 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and 891 rushing yards, and guided Washington to a 12‑5 record and its first NFC Championship Game since 1991.

Coach Dan Quinn praised Daniels’ processing speed, saying the quarterback already commands the new system at a rapid clip and can now operate more outside the pocket. Left tackle Laremy Tunsil echoed the confidence, dubbing Daniels a “dawg” and promising he’ll “get it done.” The added variety in formations should give Washington a more adaptable attack as the season unfolds.
