The Los Angeles Lakers have filed an appeal with the NBA to rescind Luka Doncic's 16th technical foul from Saturday's 105-104 win over Orlando, according to team sources. The foul, called during a verbal exchange with Magic center Goga Bitadze, would trigger a one-game suspension for Doncic when the Lakers face Detroit on Monday.

Doncic and Bitadze offered conflicting accounts of the incident. Doncic claimed Bitadze threatened his family at the free throw line, while Bitadze said Doncic cursed at him in Serbian first and he merely repeated it back. Referee Marat Kogut called a double technical with 1:19 left in the third quarter after both players continued taunting each other.

Crew chief Marc Davis explained that officials had warned both players between free throws before assessing the technicals. Doncic has reached 16 technicals in multiple seasons with Dallas, only to have the 16th foul rescinded each time. Despite the incident and shooting just 2-for-13 in the second half, Doncic finished with 33 points and eight assists as the Lakers extended their winning streak to nine games.
