White Sox Catcher Kyle Teel Out 4-6 Weeks After WBC Injury

Chicago White Sox catcher Kyle Teel will miss four to six weeks with a right hamstring strain sustained during the World Baseball Classic. The 24-year-old injured himself while legging out a double for Italy in Tuesday's 8-6 upset over the United States. Teel left the field under his own power with athletic trainers.

Acquired from Boston in the Garrett Crochet trade during the 2024 offseason, Teel appeared in 78 games for Chicago last season, hitting .273 with eight home runs, 11 doubles and 35 RBIs. The injury creates an immediate opening behind the plate, with Edgar Quero expected to handle the bulk of catching duties. Quero, who played in 111 games for the White Sox last season, hit .268 with five home runs and 36 RBIs.

The timing is particularly challenging for Chicago, as Teel was expected to compete for the starting catcher role this spring. His absence will test the depth of the White Sox catching corps and could impact their offensive production early in the season.
