Chicago White Sox catcher Kyle Teel was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a high ankle sprain that could sideline him 6-12 weeks. Manager Will Venable said Teel was still being evaluated but faces a lengthy absence after injuring his left ankle applying a tag at home plate Monday against the Texas Rangers.

Teel has been limited to just 19 games this season due to hamstring and knee injuries, including a previous 60-day IL stint. The 24-year-old is hitting .190 with two homers and 14 RBIs after posting a .273 average with eight homers and 35 RBIs in 78 games last season.

The White Sox recalled switch-hitting catcher Edgar Quero from Triple-A Charlotte. Quero, 22, debuted last year with a .268 average, five homers and 36 RBIs in 111 games but has struggled to .187 with two homers in 55 games this season. He was optioned when Teel returned June 22.

Teel, the 14th overall pick by Boston in the 2023 draft, was one of four prospects acquired in the December 2024 trade sending left-hander Garrett Crochet to the Red Sox.
