Kyle Teel activated, set to debut vs Guardians

Chicago activated catcher Kyle Teel from the 60‑day injured list on Monday and shifted Edgar Quero to Triple‑A Charlotte. Teel, 24, is slated to debut in the series opener against AL Central‑leading Cleveland Guardians. He missed the first half of the season after straining his right hamstring in the World Baseball Classic and aggravating his right knee on a rehab assignment. The club hopes his bat revives the lineup.

A first‑round pick in 2023, Teel arrived in Chicago as part of the Garrett Crochet trade in December 2024. Last year he posted a .273 average with eight homers and 35 RBIs across 78 games. During a second rehab stint he went 8‑for‑16 with a homer and four RBIs, signaling he’s ready to contribute. He also brings defensive polish behind the plate.

Quero, acquired in a July 2023 deal with the Angels, has struggled, hitting .187 with two homers and 15 RBIs in 55 appearances. His demotion clears a roster spot for Teel as the White Sox return home after a 1‑5 road swing. Sitting one game behind the Guardians, Chicago hopes the catcher's return fuels a bounce‑back. A strong start could shift the division race.
