Fried Returns to Live BP as Yankees Await Stanton’s Comeback

Max Fried will return to live batting practice at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday, pitching to the Yankees’ hitters for the first time since his mid‑May injury. Manager Aaron Boone said the left‑hander will throw about 30 pitches over two simulated innings, with Giancarlo Stanton—who has sat on the injured list—facing him.

Stanton strained his left calf on April 24 and suffered a setback running the bases in early May. The slugger appeared in 24 games this season, batting .256 with three homers and a .724 OPS before the injury. Boone said he has resumed his running program, but no return date is set.

Yankees topped the Red Sox with a four‑game sweep but now face a depleted lineup. Center‑fielder Trent Grisham, out since June 13 with a hamstring strain, is slated for a Tuesday rehab game and could activate Wednesday or Friday. Third baseman Ryan McMahon, down since a throat and ear infection, may return Friday.

With Fried’s return to the rotation and Stanton’s uncertain comeback, the Yankees must decide quickly when to bring fresh arms and power hitters back into the lineup. The team’s ability to stabilize its pitching staff and re‑add offensive firepower will determine its competitiveness in the coming weeks.
