The Arizona Diamondbacks have placed All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte on the restricted list after he failed to show up for Monday night's game against the Boston Red Sox. Manager Torey Lovullo confirmed Marte is dealing with a personal issue but offered no further details. "It's been a crazy day. All I know is that he's dealing with a personal issue -- we're just trying to figure that out," Lovullo said following the team's 11-1 loss. He noted that communication with Marte had been limited, leaving the organization uncertain about his whereabouts despite Marte traveling with the team to Boston.

This marks the second consecutive season Marte has gone AWOL. Last year, he was placed on the restricted list after his home in Arizona was burglarized during the All-Star break. He missed three games while returning to the Dominican Republic and later apologized for his absence.

Marte, a three-time All-Star, is currently hitting .249 with 21 homers and 67 RBIs in 118 games this season. The Diamondbacks recalled infielder Jose Fernandez to replace him on the roster. Lovullo indicated that Marte's future status remains unclear, stating, "I need a good night's rest, a glass of wine and we'll think about that."
