Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson, 32, will miss at least four weeks due to a Grade 2 left oblique strain, manager Craig Counsell announced Monday. Swanson left Sunday's 11-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals after an awkward swing in the bottom of the third inning.

Before the injury, Swanson was hitting .216 with 18 home runs and 66 RBIs. Nico Hoerner has shifted from second base to shortstop, while rookie Pedro Ramirez takes over at second. The team also expects Matt Shaw to begin a minor league rehab assignment Wednesday.

In related moves, the Cubs placed starting pitcher Edward Cabrera on the 15-day injured list with a blister on his middle finger. Counsell suggested Cabrera may move to the bullpen upon return, citing ongoing blister issues. Chicago recalled Javier Assad and Kevin Alcantara to fill roster spots.

Entering Monday, the Cubs (72-53) trailed the Milwaukee Brewers by five games in the NL Central but held the top NL wild-card position.
