Milwaukee called up shortstop Cooper Pratt from Triple‑A Nashville, putting him in line for a three‑game series with Cleveland. Pratt, 21, earned the promotion after signing an eight‑year, $50.75 million deal on April 3 that could climb to $60 million with performance escalators. The move freed third‑base spot for Luis Rengifo, who was designated for assignment.

Pratt won a Gold Glove as the league’s top minor‑league shortstop in 2024 and has kept that defensive standard. Offensively, he hit .241/.349 with six homers, 32 RBIs and 17 steals in 58 Triple‑A games. His bat remains a work in progress, but the Brewers see a long‑term future behind the plate.

Milwaukee tops the NL Central by 4½ games over St. Louis and is chasing a fourth straight division title. The infield has struggled offensively, with David Hamilton batting .231/.316/.320 and Joey Ortiz at .207/.299/.262. Rengifo’s .205/.280/.254 line underscored the need for a defensively solid shortstop.

With Pratt’s arrival, the Brewers can rely on a glove that has already proven elite while the team patiently develops his power bat. The trade‑free Rengifo move cleared a roster spot, enabling the club to push its core lineup toward a competitive edge in the pennant race.
