Milwaukee Brewers prospect Cooper Pratt has signed an eight-year contract extension through 2033 with club options for 2034-2035, reportedly worth $50.75 million. The 21-year-old shortstop, ranked as the No. 70 prospect by ESPN, says the financial security removes pressure and allows him to focus solely on baseball. Pratt, who won a Gold Glove as the top minor league shortstop in 2024, is opening this season with Triple-A Nashville.

Pratt entered the 2025 season with a .238 batting average, eight home runs, 62 RBIs, 31 steals and 67 walks in 120 games with Double-A Biloxi. His hitting remains a work in progress, but Brewers president of baseball operations Matt Arnold expressed confidence in his potential. The deal, negotiated by agent Scott Boras, delays Pratt's free agency opportunity but provides lifetime financial security.

This contract follows similar long-term deals for shortstops, including Jackson Chourio's $82 million agreement with Milwaukee and Colt Emerson's $95 million deal with Seattle. Boras explained that shortstops command these contracts because teams value defensive prowess at the premium position. Pratt's contract represents the Brewers' commitment to developing their young talent while maintaining cost certainty for years to come.
