Brewers third baseman Joey Ortiz and shortstop Cooper Pratt are dealing with injuries that have left the National League Central leaders short of depth on the left side of their infield. Manager Pat Murphy said before Sunday's game with the Minnesota Twins that both players were day to day as Ortiz deals with scapular muscle issues and Pratt undergoes an MRI on his hamstring.

Ortiz aggravated his scapular injury while swinging the bat in the second inning Saturday, exiting two innings later. Murphy reported Pratt’s hamstring problem also cropped up Saturday, forcing the team to shuffle the lineup.

Andrew Vaughn started at third base Sunday for the second time in his career, a role usually reserved for first‑base play, and David Hamilton was listed at shortstop for the first time since June 9. Both moves were made to cover独 the left‑side void caused by the injuries.

The depth issue extends beyond the major league roster: Triple‑A shortstop Jett Williams has wrist soreness and will see a specialist in Arizona, and the Brewers signed former Pirates outfielder/second‑baseman Jihwan Bae to a minor‑league deal to add experience.
