French Open Prize Money Dispute: Players vs Organizers

Amelie Mauresmo made it clear that Roland Garros prize money will not change this year despite player complaints about their revenue share. Mauresmo stated on Thursday that the 14.3% allocation for players falls short of the 22% standard at ATP and WTA events. Organizers increased the total pot by about 10%, reaching 61.7 million euros ($72 million), but players argue their portion declined from 15.5% in 2024.

Tensions run high as top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff have backed a Grand Slam boycott over compensation. Many competitors plan to limit media interaction to 15 minutes during Friday's pre-tournament press day. Singles champions will receive 2.8 million euros, up 250,000 from 2025, but players say the event generated 395 million euros in 2025 with prize money rising just 5.4%.

Mauresmo said she remains open to dialogue and expects a Friday meeting with player reps. Yet she was blunt: no changes this year. The current standoff sets the tone for Roland Garros, where discontent is real but action remains unlikely until after the tournament ends.
