Tennis Players to Cut Media Time Ahead of French Open Over Pay Dispute

Top tennis players will limit pre-French Open media commitments to 15 minutes, escalating a pay dispute that began in late 2025. Former WTA chief executive Larry Scott is leading the campaign, with meetings planned in Paris on Friday with French Open tournament director Amelie Mauresmo and FFT president Gilles Moretton. The AELTC remains the primary target, as Wimbledon prize money won't be announced for another three weeks.

Players are demanding 22% of Grand Slam revenues in prize money by 2030, plus tens of millions toward pensions, healthcare, and maternity benefits. World number one Aryna Sabalenka suggested a boycott is possible, while defending French Open champion Coco Gauff said she'd support strike action if players united. Jannik Sinner argued players deserve more respect over prize money.

The French Tennis Federation expressed regret over the decision, saying it impacts all stakeholders, but acknowledged players' vital role in the tournament's success. Roland Garros runs May 24 to June 7, 2026. The FFT and players aim to maintain close ties despite the tension.
