Sabalenka, Djokovic, Sinner Rally Behind Grand Slam Boycott Push

In a rare show of unity, Aryna Sabalenka and Jannik Sinner joined forces to back a player‑led boycott of Grand Slam tournaments unless prize‑money shares rise. The call follows Roland Garros’ modest £53.39m purse increase, a 10 per cent hike that still leaves players feeling shortchanged.

Sabalenka and Sinner’s statement, issued Monday, branded the 2026 French Open prize pot a “deep disappointment.” They argue that players receive a smaller slice of the total revenue compared to ATP and WTA events, where men’s shares hover around 30 percent. The quartet of Grand Slams—Wimbledon, the US Open, the Australian Open and the French Open—has already raised their pots by 7 percent, 20 percent, 16 percent and 10 percent respectively.

Novak Djokovic added support from the sidelines, noting his own split from the Professional Tennis Players Association. He praised Sabalenka’s leadership and urged a collaborative approach to resolve the “conflicts of interest” that keep players sidelined.

The players’ demand for higher revenue shares and better health and pension options could reshape Grand Slam negotiations, forcing organizers to revisit the distribution formula that underpins the sport’s biggest events.
