Ambienta portfolio company Wateralia has acquired CSA, an Italian specialist in engineered valves for water networks, from its owner and CEO Luca Bonatti. Bonatti keeps a minority stake and will continue to play a role in the company's growth. Wateralia, an investment of Ambienta Water Pumps and Ambienta IV, designs, engineers and manufactures water pumps and water systems for the integrated water cycle. Ambienta is an asset manager focused on environmental sustainability.
CSA was founded in 1987 and is headquartered in Salsomaggiore Terme, near Parma. It makes control valves that protect pipelines from pressure surges and water hammer and help water distribution networks run efficiently. Its pressure- and level-control valves match network pressure to demand and regulate reservoir levels, which reduces leakage by up to 20 percent. CSA handles design, engineering, manufacturing and testing in-house, and serves more than 1,000 customers, mainly municipalities and multiutilities, across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, the Americas and Australia.
Ambienta said about 23 percent of Europe's drinking water is lost during distribution. "Reducing losses in ageing water networks is one of the most effective levers to address water scarcity, and CSA's engineered valves directly contribute to this," said Mauro Roversi, founding partner and private equity CIO at Ambienta.
The add-on takes Wateralia into control valves for the first time, combining its pumps with CSA's valves into a single offering. Wateralia has seven manufacturing plants and 27 subsidiaries serving clients in more than 140 countries. Ambienta said the deal keeps the group on track to become one of the largest independent European players in water pumps for the integrated water cycle.
