Montreal‑based Lightspeed Commerce has agreed to sell its Upserve U.S. hospitality product line to private‑equity firm Skyview Equity for up to $81 million. The transaction transfers ownership of software that serves roughly 3,200 restaurant and hotel locations across the United States. Lightspeed, founded in 2005 by Dax Dasilva, will exit the U.S. hospitality segment while retaining its retail and golf solutions, and will streamline its balance sheet.

Skyview plans to integrate Upserve’s point‑of‑sale and analytics tools into its existing portfolio of hospitality assets, aiming to deepen market penetration and cross‑sell services to the acquired client base. The deal bolsters Skyview’s revenue pipeline, giving it immediate access to a sizeable installed base that could accelerate growth without the need for organic customer acquisition, and broaden its service offering.

Investors will watch how Skyview leverages the acquisition to improve margins, as the hospitality software market remains competitive with players like Toast and Square. By consolidating Upserve’s technology, Skyview may achieve economies of scale and enhance its negotiating power with suppliers. The transaction marks a decisive shift in Lightspeed’s strategic focus toward its core retail platform, for long‑term shareholder value.
