Snap's $2,195 Specs AR Glasses Beat Apple to Market with Full Display

Snap unveiled Specs, its first consumer augmented reality glasses with a built-in display, at AWE USA 2026. The $2,195 wearable computer features see-through lenses and weighs just 132-136 grams depending on size. Snap calls the Swiss TR90 polymer construction 'plastic titanium' for its lightweight durability.

Two Snapdragon chips power the dual-camera system: full-color cameras for standard capture and infrared sensors for computer vision. The glasses deliver a 51-degree field of view, comparable to an 115-inch screen from 10 feet away, using LCoS projectors for the stereo waveguide display. Automatic tinting adapts to lighting conditions while hand tracking and voice recognition enable gesture control.

Battery life reaches four hours with mixed use, a significant jump from the 45-minute developer-only Spectacles. A magnetic charging cable allows charging during wear, and the case adds 20 hours of total runtime. Specs support content viewing, screen casting, whiteboard writing, and existing Snapchat lenses through USB-C connectivity.

Lens Studio now integrates Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor for AI-powered experiences using OpenAI and Gemini APIs. Snap ships this fall to the US, UK, and France, beating Apple's planned 2027 AR glasses that reportedly lack a display. The high price puts Snap in direct competition with enterprise-focused AR companies.
