Snap unveiled its first consumer‑grade augmented reality glasses, SPECS, at Augmented World Expo 2026. The device packs two Snapdragon processors, a liquid‑crystal‑on‑silicon display with a 51‑degree field of view, and a waveguide borrowed from Boeing 787 windows. Weighing just 132 grams for the 47 mm frame, the glasses run fully standalone without a tether or external puck.

Snap built SPECS to address the attention drain of smartphones, letting users access maps, measurements, or AI assistance while staying visually engaged with their surroundings. The optics deliver up to 16 million colors, creating a virtual screen that feels like a 24‑inch monitor up close or a 115‑inch cinema at distance. Battery life reaches four hours of mixed use, with a charging case adding three more charges.

Developers can already publish hundreds of Lenses for SPECS, and Snap introduced new tools including a native SDK, a spatial benchmark, and agentic development previews in Claude Code and Cursor. On‑device processing and an LED indicator preserve privacy by alerting users when cameras record. The launch positions SPECS as a lightweight, socially aware AR platform ready for everyday tasks.
