New Apple Studio Displays Drop Intel Mac Support

Apple's new Studio Display and Studio Display XDR models will not work with Intel-based Macs, marking a significant shift in compatibility requirements. According to Apple's official compatibility list, both displays only support Macs with M-series chips, including the 16-inch MacBook Pro, 14-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac Studio.

This limitation affects all Intel Macs, which Apple began phasing out in 2020 with the introduction of Apple silicon. The transition was completed in 2023 with the discontinuation of the Intel Mac Pro, meaning Apple hasn't sold Intel Macs for nearly three years. The company is also ending software support, with macOS Tahoe being the final update for Intel-based systems.

The new displays will be available for pre-order on March 4 at 9:15 a.m. Eastern Time. This compatibility decision reflects Apple's commitment to its Apple silicon transition and signals the end of support for legacy Intel hardware, even for accessories.
