Apple's upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to include several significant upgrades, according to analyst Jeff Pu's research note to GF Securities. The devices will reportedly feature a smaller Dynamic Island, achieved by moving Face ID's flood illuminator under the screen, along with a variable aperture for the main 48-megapixel Fusion camera.

Performance improvements include Apple's next-generation A20 Pro chip, built on TSMC's first-generation 2nm process for better efficiency and speed. The iPhone 18 Pro will also introduce an upgraded N2 chip for wireless connectivity and a third-generation C2 modem for cellular performance. These upgrades build on the N1 chip's Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread capabilities found in current models.

While the variable aperture could provide greater control over depth of field, its practical impact may be limited by the iPhone's smaller image sensors. Apple is expected to release the iPhone 18 Pro models in September, with additional features outlined in MacRumors' comprehensive iPhone 18 roundup. These upgrades represent Apple's continued push for incremental improvements in its flagship smartphone line.
