Xiaomi's New Streaming Stick Skips 4K Again

Xiaomi has unveiled its Xiaomi TV Stick HD (2nd Gen), a long-awaited successor to its entry-level streaming device that first launched nearly five years ago. The new model brings Google TV integration, a 38% faster CPU, and support for modern codecs like AV1, but continues to cap at 1080p resolution. This refresh targets users looking to modernize older televisions without breaking the bank.

The hardware sees modest upgrades including HDR10+ support for better contrast and Dolby Audio plus DTS:X for enhanced sound quality. The stick features a dedicated remote with quick-access buttons for Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, and Google Assistant. Connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0. However, Xiaomi kept the aging micro-USB port for power instead of upgrading to USB-C, and the device still ships with just 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage.

While the processor improvements and codec support represent meaningful steps forward, the limited memory and lack of 4K support make this feel like a cautious update rather than a significant leap. The device will likely launch in Western Europe and other global markets priced between €45-€55, positioning it as an affordable option for 1080p TV owners. For users with older televisions seeking basic Google TV functionality, this stick delivers adequate performance, but those wanting future-proof features may need to look elsewhere.
