Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 to offer 5G‑less model, sparking price debate

Samsung has revealed a new twist for its flagship Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. Sources say the model will ship with the Snapdragon Wear Elite, a chip that can support 5G. That capability is absent from the current Ultra, which uses an Exynos W1000 with a 4G modem, for consumers seeking faster connectivity everywhere now.

Meanwhile, Dutch research outlet GalaxyClub claims Samsung will also ship a Bluetooth‑only variant of the Ultra 2, dropping the cellular module entirely. That model will still carry Wi‑Fi but will lack 5G. A cheaper price point could stem from higher RAM and storage costs that forced Samsung to hike phone prices for the global market.

Apple currently remains the only smartwatch brand offering 5G, but its devices start at 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Samsung’s original Ultra shipped with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage, later upgraded to 64GB. It is unclear whether the Ultra 2 will match those capacities, leaving buyers wondering about performance trade‑offs daily.

Consumers facing a choice between a pricier 5G‑enabled watch and a more affordable Bluetooth‑only model will weigh connectivity against cost. Samsung’s strategy mirrors a broader industry trend where carriers and manufacturers split high‑end and budget tiers. The final retail prices will reveal whether the extra cellular feature justifies the premium for tech enthusiasts today now.
