Facing pressure from rivals like Insta360 and DJI, GoPro is launching the Mission 1 series, a new flagship action camera line intended to significantly boost video capabilities beyond the current Hero 13. The lineup debuts a new 50-megapixel one-inch sensor and the efficient GP3 processor, aiming to reset expectations for small cinema cameras in terms of resolution and low-light handling.

Three variants are available: the standard Mission 1, the Pro, and the Pro ILS, which features an interchangeable lens system compatible with Micro Four Thirds glass. Pro models hit 8K at 60 frames per second, while all variants capture 50MP RAW stills. This architecture facilitates up to 14 stops of dynamic range and promises three-plus hours of 4K/30p recording using the new Enduro 2 battery.

GoPro also introduced supporting gear, including a Wireless Mic System resembling DJI's offering and several mods. The Mission 1 Pro ILS specifically positions itself as a versatile, high-speed cinema tool, albeit one where bulky lenses might limit traditional helmet mounting. Pricing and release dates for the entire Mission 1 family are still pending announcement.

This aggressive hardware refresh signals GoPro’s intent to reclaim top-tier performance credibility in the fiercely competitive action camera space. The inclusion of professional codecs like 10-bit GP-Log2 also caters directly to advanced users seeking maximum post-production flexibility.
