Roblox reached a settlement with Nevada to avoid trial, agreeing to pay $12 million. The deal follows a wave of lawsuits accusing the platform of facilitating child sexual exploitation. Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford said the agreement should make the online environment safer for kids. As part of the pact, the company will fund local youth programs.

Roblox will allocate $10 million over three years to groups such as the Boys and Girls Club, and earmark $2.5 million for a law‑enforcement liaison and safety‑awareness campaigns. New protocols mandate an age‑verification system that blends facial‑age estimation with government IDs, restrict chat between minors and adults unless a ‘trusted friend’ QR code is used, and extend parental‑control limits to users up to 16.

Even with Nevada’s deal, Roblox still confronts suits in Kentucky, Iowa, Louisiana, Texas and elsewhere, keeping the platform under intense regulatory scrutiny. The expanded safety suite—age‑verified accounts, vetted game lists and broader parental controls—aims to reassure parents and lawmakers while preserving the social‑gaming experience that fuels its massive user base.

Industry observers note the settlement could set a template for how interactive platforms address child‑safety concerns, potentially prompting similar financial commitments from competitors.
