Nintendo announced that Yoshi and the Mysterious Book will launch for Switch 2 on May 21. The reveal came during the company's annual Mar10 Day celebration, a playful holiday that takes advantage of the date's resemblance to the word 'Mario.'

A new trailer showcases the game's distinctive visual style, which resembles a children's picture book come to life. This follows Nintendo's tradition of unique aesthetics in Yoshi games, from yarn-based worlds to the hand-drawn look of the original Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. The gameplay appears to shift away from the series' signature egg-throwing mechanics.

Instead, the trailer shows Yoshi gaining special abilities by carrying different creatures, similar to Kirby's power-absorption mechanics. The game also features Yoshi's refined palate, as he experiences stomach aches from consuming particularly bitter enemies. This marks another major release for the anthropomorphic dinosaur, coming just weeks after the announcement that Donald Glover will voice Yoshi in the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie, hitting theaters on April 1.
