Wing, the Alphabet-owned drone delivery subsidiary, is significantly expanding its partnership with Walmart to bring automated deliveries to 150 additional store locations across the United States. This rollout will target major metropolitan areas including Los Angeles, St. Louis, Cincinnati, and Miami, with more cities yet to be announced. This expansion is driven by robust consumer adoption, as Wing reports its top 25 percent of customers utilize the service up to three times weekly.

The goal is to serve 40 million customers via a network of 270 delivery locations by 2027. The partnership, which began in Dallas-Fort Worth in August 2023, has rapidly grown, recently covering 100 more stores in Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Orlando, and Tampa. Before partnering with Walmart, Wing established its US presence through a collaboration with Walgreens in 2022 and has also worked with DoorDash.

Technologically, Wing is developing a larger drone capable of carrying five pounds at 65 mph to meet increasing demand. This move signals a pivotal shift in last-mile logistics, offering retailers a scalable alternative to traditional delivery fleets.
