Waymo Premier membership costs $30, critics say it's overpriced

Alphabet’s driverless taxi service Waymo launched Waymo Premier today, a $30‑a‑month membership that promises priority pickups, a 10 percent in‑app rebate on future rides and up to five fee‑free cancellations each month. Members also gain early access to new cities as the fleet expands, effectively paying to beta‑test coverage for urban commuters seeking convenience.

By contrast Uber One and Lyft Pink both cost $10 per month and bundle ride credits with discounts on hotels, rentals and food delivery and perks. Uber One adds a 6 percent ride credit and a 10 percent car‑rental rebate, while Lyft Pink offers 5 percent off standard rides and free priority pickup. Obi’s June 2025 analysis shows Waymo rides still cost more than comparable Uber or Lyft trips.

Consumers end up paying three times the subscription fee and higher per‑ride prices for a service that still relies on remote human operators, as recent software recalls after a San Antonio flood demonstrate. The price gap raises questions about Waymo Premier’s value proposition, especially when cheaper alternatives deliver broader benefits. In practice, the plan offers little advantage for most riders for daily commutes.
