Toyota Joins Daimler and Volvo in Hydrogen Fuel Cell Push

Toyota is partnering with Daimler Truck and Volvo Group to join the hydrogen fuel cell joint venture cellcentric. This collaboration aims to manage the development and production of fuel cell unit cells for heavy commercial vehicles. Toyota President Koji Sato stated the partnership will combine Toyota's 30-year passenger car fuel cell expertise with cellcentric's commercial field expertise to deliver world-leading systems. This move is notable as it counters a broader industry trend away from hydrogen, following Stellantis and GM abandoning their programs last year, and Toyota itself pivoting towards industrial applications.
