Supernatural VR Fitness Returns Independent

Meta's VR division cuts left fitness fans mourning the planned shutdown of Supernatural, but the popular VR exercise app is getting a second life. Supernatural Health, a new independent company, will revive the platform this fall on Meta Quest. The return comes after Meta laid off hundreds and shuttered three VR studios, including halting updates to the beloved fitness app that many found surprisingly effective.

The relaunch brings good news and bad news. All original coaches are returning, but subscription prices are climbing significantly: $180 annually up from $100, and $20 monthly versus $10. Current users must migrate before December 3, when the original app will be completely sunsetted. Existing subscribers will need to pay the new premium to access the revitalized content library.

Despite slashing its VR investments, Meta continues developing another standalone headset reportedly offering a "large upgrade" over Quest 3, though potentially at a much higher price point. Supernatural's resurrection suggests consumer demand for VR fitness remains strong, even as tech giants scale back metaverse ambitions. The independent relaunch could set a precedent for other VR applications seeking life beyond big tech platforms.
