Spotify Launches Running Mode on Android

Spotify has rolled out its AI‑powered Running Mode to Android users in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Sweden, following its launch on iOS in late July. The feature, cabinet of an earlier 2018 experiment, lives in Spotify’s Fitness Hub and lets runners pick from 25 presets across different workouts and genres, then tweak run length, beat‑matching for pace, and enable or disable audio cues. Users can launch Running Mode directly from the app’s main screen, selecting a preset such as "Morning Cardio" or "HIIT" and letting the AI generate a tracklist that syncs tempo with the chosen pace.

The AI considers user listening history and recent activity to curate a playlist. Spotify began offering its Prompted Playlists in January 2026, and after a new partnership with Peloton, the company noted workout‑focused playlist requests were among the most common prompts. Running Mode satisfies that demand and hints at further AI‑driven fitness tools the service may release.

Looking ahead, Spotify plans to integrate more real‑time metrics like heart rate via compatible wearables, and might expand the playlist library with genre‑specific training themes.
