Disney Plans to Discontinue Hulu App

Contrary to Disney's earlier claims, a leaked internal memo suggests the standalone Hulu app may be discontinued. Despite the company's statement that "All Hulu subscribers will also continue to have access to the standalone app," Business Insider reports Disney plans to eventually close the streaming service it acquired in 2023. The memo indicates Disney will migrate Hulu content to its own platform.

According to the leaked document, Disney+ will absorb Hulu content and features, with a potential completion target of end of 2026. The memo states "The Hulu tech stack and app will be decommissioned after all users have transitioned" to Disney's platform. Tech employees reportedly confirm Hulu receives minimal investment in new features or development, contradicting Disney's public stance.

Disney has openly discussed unifying Hulu and Disney+ services but now faces questions about its credibility following the leak. The company plans to maintain distinct subscription options and bundle packages to preserve revenue streams. Hulu subscribers may not be forced to upgrade to Disney+, though the standalone app's eventual disappearance seems inevitable under Disney's current strategy.
