Disney Unites Hulu Features While Keeping Standalone Service

Disney has begun linking Hulu profiles to Disney+, letting users import their watch history, watchlists, and recommendations into the Disney+ app. The move starts with 18+ profiles for eligible bundle subscribers and will roll out to all bundles later this year.

The company plans to test a live TV guide in Disney+ that will showcase 24/7 channels like ABC News Live and The Simpsons. HDR10+ support, already available on over 1,000 Hulu titles, will also extend into Disney+.

Despite these integrations, Disney will keep Hulu as a separate subscription until the underlying technology is fully unified. A standalone Hulu costs $12 a month, while a Disney+ and Hulu bundle is $13, making the bundle a compelling bargain. Maintaining the option to subscribe to Hulu alone also reduces churn for bundled customers.

Overall, Disney is tightening the bridge between its services while preserving Hulu’s independence until the integration can deliver full functionality across both platforms.
