Budget indie game subscription arrives

indie.io is launching Indie Pass, a subscription service exclusively for indie games, on April 13. The service will debut with over 70 games and promises a constantly evolving catalog. Unlike other subscription services, Indie Pass costs just $8 per month, making it significantly cheaper than Game Pass Ultimate's $30 price point.

The platform already features several confirmed titles including the cozy game Echoes of the Plum Grove, farm-based shooter Air Hares, and tactical RPG Dark Deity. Indie.io is actively courting indie developers and publishers to expand their offerings. Their strategy of leveraging existing publishing relationships should help maintain a robust library.

Indie Pass currently only supports PC, though compatibility with Steam Deck via the console's Proton layer seems likely. With its affordable price point and curated indie library, the service offers a focused alternative to gaming's subscription giants, though its long-term viability depends on maintaining quality content and growing its subscriber base.
