Audi's 2027 RS5 marks a bold shift for the brand's performance lineup, combining a twin-turbo V6 with two electric motors for a total of 630 horsepower and 609 lb-ft of torque. The plug-in hybrid delivers up to 54 miles of electric range while retaining Audi's signature Quattro all-wheel drive. A unique rear motor controls a new Dynamic Torque Control system, enabling impressive drift capabilities.

Unlike typical hybrids, the RS5's rear motor isn't for propulsion but for precise torque vectoring. Audi's Dynamic Torque Control uses planetary gearsets to send power to either rear wheel, enhancing agility and enabling controlled drifts. In Torque Rear mode, the system sends up to 85 percent of engine power to the rear axle, making the 5,200-pound sedan surprisingly nimble on track. The car also features an Audi Driving Experience system that records and replays drift data.

The RS5 rides on a 25.9-kilowatt-hour battery (22 kWh net) and offers multiple drive modes, from silent EV operation to aggressive RS Sport. While the added weight affects cornering precision, the hybrid system's instant torque and advanced suspension help mask the mass. Audi hasn't announced pricing yet, but the 2027 RS5 arrives in the U.S. in late 2026, offering a high-performance alternative in an era of shifting EV strategies.
