iPhone 18 Pro Won’t Get Dual‑Layer OLED Brightness Boost

Weibo leaker Instant Digital posted Monday that the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro will not feature the brighter dual-layer OLED panel seen on the iPad Pro. The rumor, scored likely by AppleInsider, cites thermal management as the show‑stopper; stacking two OLED sheets generates more light but also more heat, risking performance throttling. Apple engineers have reportedly tested several heat‑dissipation layouts but none have met the performance envelope required for a flagship launch.

Apple’s current OLED supply chain leans on Samsung Display and LG Display, with BOE lagging for premium units. Both Samsung and LG have been prototyping tandem OLEDs, but neither has cleared the thermal hurdle for a handset. A 2025 leak suggested LG might ship such panels by 2028, a timeline far beyond the iPhone 18 cycle.

Without a dual‑layer panel, the iPhone 18 Pro will rely on its existing OLED stack, meaning outdoor readability improves only marginally. Consumers seeking a brighter screen will have to wait for a future generation where Apple resolves the heat issue. As of now, the device’s brightness remains constrained by the same thermal limits that hampered the iPhone 17 Pro.
