Apple adds custom pass creator to iOS 27 Wallet

Apple is adding “Create a Pass” to Wallet in iOS 27, letting users scan QR codes or manually build passes for tickets, memberships, gift cards, and similar items. Users tap the + button, scan an existing barcode, or choose a custom option to start from scratch. The addition arrives after years of users photographing tickets, a workaround that often broke when venues changed barcodes, and now works directly on their iPhone.

The interface will color‑code three pass categories: purple for events, blue for memberships, and orange for all other types. Within each pass, users can replace the default image, tweak background hues, and edit the displayed text to reflect branding or personal preference. Bloomberg’s leak confirms Apple will demo the tool at its June WWDC, where iOS 27’s broader suite of updates, including AI tweaks, will be unveiled.

By turning paper tickets and loyalty cards into editable digital assets, Apple gives consumers a single hub for everyday credentials, potentially shrinking the clutter of physical paper. Developers could soon receive APIs that generate QR codes compatible with the new system, but the immediate benefit lands in users’ pockets, where one scan can replace a handful of cards and streamline check‑in flows.
