Apple adds DIY digital passes to Wallet in iOS 27

Apple expands Wallet in iOS 27, letting users generate their own digital passes from membership barcodes. Tapping the plus icon now reveals a “Create a Pass” option under Add to Wallet, labeled “Tickets, membership cards and more.” Earlier, adding passes required third‑party apps or manual imports, a clunky process for non‑digital tickets.

The tool offers two creation paths: Visual Intelligence, which will eventually scan a physical pass via the camera, and a manual editor. The manual flow supplies three templates—Membership, Event, and Standard—each with editable fields and a barcode slot. Users can adjust colors from a limited palette of twelve shades and choose from seven background graphics.

While the AI‑driven scanner remains in beta pending Siri Intelligence rollout, the manual method works today and eliminates the need for niche apps that previously generated Wallet‑compatible codes. Customization stays basic, but the ability to store gym IDs, concert tickets, or pharmacy barcodes directly in Wallet cuts down on paper clutter and streamlines entry workflows. The feature also records expiration dates, helping users avoid missed renewals.
