Apple Home Architecture Sunset: Upgrade Before Feb 10 Deadline

Apple is shutting down its original Apple Home architecture on February 10, 2026, ending support for devices running on older software. The company initially announced this change in May 2025 as part of what was then called iOS 19, now renamed iOS 26. After postponing the deadline from November to February, Apple is now preparing to cut off the older architecture.

Home users who haven't upgraded face potential service interruptions, with smart home devices losing connectivity and automation functionality. The newer architecture, which launched in November 2022 after a troubled start, offers performance improvements, Activity History, guest access, and support for robot vacuum cleaners. To upgrade, all Apple hardware must run minimum operating system versions including iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, macOS Ventura 13.1, tvOS 16.2, or watchOS 9.2 or later.

Apple provides a straightforward upgrade process through the Home app. Users open the app, tap the More button, select Home Settings, choose Software Update, and tap Update Now. The company says this updates all homes simultaneously, eliminating the need for multiple updates. With the deadline approaching, Apple users should act quickly to ensure their smart home devices continue functioning properly after February 10.

Quick Fact: Apple announced the original Apple Home architecture sunset in May 2025.
