Apple has officially ended support for the older Apple Home architecture, leaving some users unable to access their smart home setups. The company introduced a new, more reliable and efficient architecture in 2022, but users who failed to update by the February 10 deadline now see an error message prompting them to upgrade immediately.

Those still running the outdated version will lose access to their smart home accessories and automations, and miss out on newer features like robot vacuum cleaner support. The update is also required to receive important security fixes and performance improvements. Apple notes that all members of a shared home will need to update their devices to restore full functionality.

Users can update through the Home app by navigating to Home Settings and selecting Software Update. The newer architecture requires a minimum of iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, macOS 13.1, tvOS 16.2, and watchOS 9.2. While the deadline has passed, it remains possible to upgrade and restore access to the smart home system.
