Wyze recalls 321,000 Solar Cam Pan units over fire hazard risk

Wyze is recalling roughly 321,360 Solar Cam Pan security cameras after installation errors created fire hazards. The battery-powered outdoor camera, model WYZESCPWH, was released in late 2025 with 2K video and integrated solar charging. Customers reported overheating, fires, and minor burn injuries when using incorrect screws during setup.

The problem stems from confusing installation instructions that allowed users to puncture the lithium-ion battery with improperly sized screws. When mounted with a long flat-head screw instead of the required short pan-head screw, the screw can pierce the battery casing, causing rapid overheating or explosion. The CPSC documented 13 incidents including six fires or explosions.

Affected customers should stop using the cameras immediately and visit Wyze's recall portal. The company will push a firmware update that drains and disables the battery remotely over 48 hours, avoiding dangerous shipping of compromised units. Owners can then choose a free Battery Cam Pro replacement, full refund, or store credit equal to the original $80 purchase price.

This recall represents a significant safety failure for Wyze, whose brand centers on home protection. Shipping a product that can catch fire due to documentation errors undermines consumer trust, even with the company's relatively generous compensation approach.
