The core innovation is 'Music-First Mode,' which replaces the traditional playback screen. This new view places album art prominently, offering an immersive experience.

Users now control playback via gestures: a single tap plays or pauses, while a double tap skips tracks. Crucially, this mode provides direct access to key functions like Home, Search, Library, and Downloads without needing a phone. Spotify states this redesign makes the app more discoverable and gives users greater wrist-based control.

The update is rolling out via the Google Play Store, promising a more feature-rich smartwatch music experience.
